Marawi rehab efforts now on full blast implementation

MARAWI CITY, July 22 (PIA) — Task Force Bangon Marawi chairman Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario said in today’s pre-State of the Nation Address Forum, that the full-blast construction of infrastructures in the most affected area (MAA) of Marawi City has begun. Del Rosario emphasized that there are two general interventions for the rehabilitation of Marawi City – infrastructure interventions and non-infrastructure. “With regards to infrastructures, we have received the funds already last April and May, and this month, the construction of vertical infrastructures has started. These facilities will pave the way for the rising up of MAA as the business center of the city,” he said. Meanwhile, the non-infrastructure aspect includes various social services such as the Department of Trade and Industry’s distribution of livelihood starter kits and the release of the Transitory Family Support Package by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. “There are numerous interventions on social services so that at the end of the day, we will have a situation in Marawi where we have provided facilities for economic stability and development while at the same time addressing the problems on peace and order,” he added. The chairman is also confident that the rehabilitation is still on track. “We are certain that we are able to achieve this, in accordance with our timeline of completing our rehabilitation by December 2021. We are on the right track,” he said. The infrastructures which are now on full-swing construction include Marawi Maritime Outpost implemented by Armed Forces of the Philippines; Grand Padian Central Market, School of Living Tradition, Peace Memorial Park, Marawi Museum, and five barangay halls with a health center and madrasah by the local government of Marawi. These are funded through the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management – Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Program (NDRRM-MRRP). For infrastructures outside MAA, the new Marawi City jail funded also by NDRRM-MRRP that can house more than 1,000 Persons Deprived of Liberty is now on 30% completion. This is implemented Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has also continued rehabilitation of 18.97-kilometer Marawi Transcentral Road in Lanao Del Sur which is funded under the P970 Million grant from Government of Japan thru Japan International Cooperation Agency.
